Interview with Holocaust 427 Part One

In October of 2007 I had just just walked out of the Henry Rollins spoken word show. It wasn't quite midnight. I turned to my buddy Jesse, "Let's go get a drink at Savage Garden?" Jesse looks at the ground and looks at me the the best "I don't wana fuckin' go but I will" look I have ever seen. A quick hop on the tube, mind the gap, and we were at Osgoode station walking down Queen Street towards the Garden.

I walked up the steps into the garden and I heard live music. What luck. I need a punch in the balls. I had just listened to Rollins yap and stroke my Canadian ego for 3 hours. Time for some music. Facts; I did not know any of there songs and walked in probably half way through their set-list, they rocked the place.

I had to interview them for my new blog I was starting, and now here it is. I divided the interview into five main parts. The first set of question is on influences.

Ward from H427:
Oi! Sorry man I was out with my band-mate Dan. He made an unexpected visit . . .
criticalmass:
Hey hey! No problem.
Ward from H427:
We went for a couple beers and i just dropped him off. . .sorry i am late. . .let me piss this Guinness out and lets do this.
criticalmass:
Okay. (As I wait for Wards' return)
Ward from H427:
Bang. . .dude. . . once again, totally sorry for being late and taking so long to get this interview.
criticalmass:
No problem. Alright. How about we start easy? Who is in the band? And what are their main duties?
Ward from H427:
Myself, Dan or otherwise known as Skinnchip and Olik Nesnah
criticalmass:
And as far as instruments/electronics? Who does what?
Ward from H427:
I do vocals, most of the programming and composition. Live I play synths and drums. Dan does drums and synths live with occasional back up vocals. Dan also does samples live. Olik does background music (ed. note: pads), back up vocals and the live (musical) interludes live. He is the white to my black. Olik and myself were the original members. Dan is a recent addition but now a mainstay.

criticalmass:
As a band what other artists do you draw inspiration from?
Ward from H427:
Well the obvious. . .Skinny Puppy, Rammstein, NIN, Suicide Commando, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb. . .old school or big show. That is wat inspires us!
Ward from H427:
Rammstein is metal. but fuck they put on a (great) live show. NIN is amazing. and now that he has his own control of what he does i think we will see that more. (Ed. Note: This interview was done before Ghost I-IV. . .good call Ward)
criticalmass:
We shall see. . .2 weeks apparently. Any non-electronic bands? Even the 'stein has synth.
Ward from H427:
Yeah sure. . .hmmm. . .non electronic. . .that is hard. . .old German polka bands.
criticalmass:
lol.
Ward from H427:
Old WWII folk songs and shit. We all grew up to that.
criticalmass:
Fair enough. Best CD you bought or stole in the last year?
Ward from H427:
I have to say stole. Because I am one of those people who steals a couple tracks and if its good I will buy it. If its crap the recycle bin is free and i didn't waste anything, since id rather spend my money on gear.
criticalmass:
So what is the best thing you have downloaded in the last year?
Ward from H427:
I was trying to look it up but my ipod is dead. . .oh. . .FGFC820. . .HOLY CRAP!
criticalmass:
I have to admit I do not know that one.
